Calliope was chief of the nine muses in Greek mythology. The muses were the patrons of the various arts and sciences, such as drama, music, poetry, and literature. Like the word kaleidoscope, Calliope comes from the root kalos, which means beautiful or multi-faceted. Calliope's vision stems from the meanings reflected in this mythological history.
