LA101 is a profound and comprehensive opportunity for talent new to the West Coast to experience life as an industry player and citizen of Los Angeles. Held over the course of a month, LA101 is designed to give actors a realistic view of the entertainment industry, from the inside looking out. With over thirty workshops, seminars, symposiums, class audits, networking functions, performances, day trips, tours and rehearsals, actors explore the LA market in a manner that enables them to secure personal and professional grounding as they begin the pursuit of their careers in Hollywood.
Talent network, train, and showcase with some of the most respected talent and modeling agents and casting directors in the industry. Actors participate in acting, dance, improvisation, movement, relaxation, martial arts, and music workshops with LA professionals. Intensive rehearsals and developmental sessions are conducted to prepare actors for various performances. Talent who work in different regions participate in a symposium to share experiences and insight. Kristy Martin conducts an additional seminar in LA entitled "How to Ground Yourself For the LA Market."
Talent experience the culture and history of Hollywood through LA101's "History of Hollywood Tour." They also participate in performance events to observe the skills of Hollywood actors and to gain perspective on their level of competition. Activities include live situation comedy and variety show tapings, as well as a show by a professional LA improvisational troupe. Talent have numerous opportunities to mingle at various networking parties, gatherings, and functions.
Additional activities may include a visit to the Samuel French bookstore, where actors can find books and publications covering every aspect of the entertainment industry; a trip to Universal Studios' Citywalk; and a day trip to a selected community on the Pacific Ocean. Talent can meet with apartment service representatives or tour various extended-stay hotels in order to explore housing options in LA's various municipalities.
The ongoing objective of the LA101 experience is to furnish actors with the information, tools, guidance, and exposure necessary to compete in the LA market. LA101's mission is to provide spiritual insight for actors and their families so they can be productive and content while establishing a foundation in Hollywood.
